Many people have called asking for carpet cleaning because they thought it would get rid of the pet odors and stains in their carpet. Will it? This usually won't happen, in fact, it may make it worse. What do we mean, make it worse?
Pet odors in carpet vary in the degree of smells they create. Some you can only smell if you get down and smell the carpet. Other pet odors can be so bad they permeate the air in the room or even the whole house.
Steam carpet cleaning will actually make the carpet smell worse for several days however, it will return to the degree of smell it had before the carpet was cleaned then if nothing was done to treat the odor issue.
Odor treatment is a specialized service and you would be wise to use someone who knows how to treat the issue properly or advise you on the best course to take.
Can you get the stains out, I'm often asked. What people often mean is their little brown and black spots. Is there a difference between spots and stains?
Professional carpet cleaners differentiate between a stain and a spot by saying a stain is semi-permanent or requires a special process to remove (hopefully) and a spot either steam cleans (washes) right out or comes out after treating with a specialty spotter.
Examples of stains are bleach, red colored dye stains and urine. Examples of spots are soil, make-up, grease or gum.
Some carpet cleaners won't attempt to get out spots or stains either because they don't know how, don't want to take the time or don't have the proper chemicals to do so.
What tends to want to reappear after cleaning, a spot or a stain? Actually it's usually a spot. Chemical residue or wicking can cause a spot to reappear. If a stain comes out, it's usually gone for good.
Not all carpet fibers stain the same. For example, a nylon fiber carpet will most likely stain from a pet accident, however, a polyester fiber carpet won't. Most people choose nylon fiber carpet and I'll address what else stains it.
The obvious stainers are bleach and certain chemicals like bathroom bowl or shower cleaners. However, just as powerful for discoloring your carpet is acne medication and mustard.
Fruit juices, Kool Aid and gatorade type drinks can also leave a colored stained. Red wine can stain carpet, so no matter how hard it asks don't give it any to drink.
So obviously anything with color is a potential stainer. But virtually any beverage can stain your carpet. How's that?
By spilling a good amount of it into the carpet. You see, the beverage goes into the backing and pad of the carpet and just sits there waiting to come to the surface when what's on top is removed (it's called wicking). It's like the spot doesn't want to go away.
So anytime you spill a beverage, soak it up with heavy toweling or a wet vac. Rinse it with water and soak that up. Then place a clean (old) towel folded over it with heavy objects on it while it dries.
Many other things like nail polish, paint, rust, furniture stain and wax can stain your carpet and with the use of professional grade chemicals and rinsing with steam cleaning, a professional carpet cleaner can get them out.
Our website has a tremendous amount of information on it. FYI, it is of our own design and we personally maintain and edit it.
The information on it is designed to be both informative and educational. If you come across a PDF link, a small box will appear and you should click on OPEN NORMALLY to read the PDF. A PDF makes it easy for you to download or print a copy (e.g. Our After Cleaning Instructions) so you have the information at your fingertips.

Many people are unaware of what kind of chemicals some carpet cleaners use on their carpet or upholstery. We can't answer for what others use, but we can tell you what we use.
We encourage our customers to ask us for a Safety Data Sheet for any of our products. We do not clean with soapy or detergent type products. We use a 100% natural soap free cleaner that carries the "green" label. It is safe for humans, pets and your carpet because it leaves Zero residue.
Even our carpet "spotter" is 100% natural. So our Carpet CARE begins before we even arrive at your home by the choice we make with the safest carpet cleaning chemicals.
Southwest Riverside County has very "hard" water. When used with detergent carpet cleaning chemicals, it can leave your carpet stiff and sticky rather than soft and residue free.
Is there a solution to this problem? Yes there is. But it's an added expense for Carpet Cleaners who care. We carry an on board water softener to soften the hard water. Not only does it leave the fibers softer to the touch, it reduces the amount of chemicals needed to clean.
Our chemicals are already 0 Rez and very concentrated with no fillers. We only use 4-6 ounces per 5 gallons of concentrate.
So it really does make a difference in the outcome of carpet or upholstery cleaning depending upon whether they are cleaned with soft or hard water. Does your professional carpet cleaner use soft water?
Is there a difference between carpet cleaners equipment? Are all truck mounts alike?
No, not all truck mounts are alike. In fact, there could be a portable steam cleaning machine that does a better job than some entry level truck mounts.
Like most equipment, there are different levels of efficiency and capabilities with truck mounts. An entry level unit may have less heat, vacuum and pressure capabilities than a top of the line model like we use.
What that means to you is faster drying times, more heat for faster drying and more effective cleaning and high enough pressure to blast right through heavily soiled carpet. It all means a better and more thorough carpet cleaning.
We will write some short posts about some of our services, including carpet cleaning, tile and upholstery cleaning, tile and grout cleaning and travertine and marble polishing and restoration.
Feel free to post your cleaning questions and comments by clicking the leave comment tab whether you are in our service area or not. We look forward to hearing from you.
